  • Life in the Universe: Exoplanets, Aliens and Information

    Charley Lineweaver, Australian National University

    19:30

Over the past 20 years, thousands of exoplanets have been detected. It seems that almost all stars have some kind of planetary system around them. Many of these planets will be rocky Earth-like planets in the habitable zone where pressures and temperatures allow liquid water. Will these planets have life on them? Are we alone in the universe? What kind of biosignatures can we use to identify aliens? Do we even know what life is? Information and entropy play a fundamental role in defining life. I will describe how they might be used to find life in the universe. The scientific search for life elsewhere has begun.
